Why do we observe the Sabbath?
We observe the Sabbath on the seventh day of the week because The Most High has commanded us to do so. The Sabbath begins on Friday evening at sundown and lasts until Saturday evening at sundown. Every week.
Why do we stand in the presence of the Torah?
We honor and revere the Word that The Most High has left us. The Torah contains a perfect foundation for a righteous life. It has been preserved for generations in one form or another so that we could benefit from it. We acknowledge and are grateful for such a great gift. We do NOT worship the Torah, only TMH deserves worship.
Why does the staff wear gloves to handle the Torah?
Since we consider the Torah gift, were are even careful in how we handle the scrolls. We hope that through the handling of the Torah in this way, TMH acknowledges that we are serious and appreciative of this gift.
Why do we use drums during service?
Instruments of praise aren’t limited to just one thing. Any musical instrument can be used to offer praise to TMH. The harp, the horn, the drums even the piano.
Who is allowed on the Bimah?
Only people who have been designated to be on the Bimah are allowed on the Bimah. And, they must follow the Laws of Cleanliness listed in the Torah.
Why do we wear fringes?
‘Speak unto the children of Israel, and bid them that they make them throughout their generations fringes in the corners of their garments, and that they put with the fringe of each corner a thread of blue. 39 And it shall be unto you for a fringe, that ye may look upon it, and remember all the commandments of the LORD, and do them; and that ye go not about after your own heart and your own eyes, after which ye use to go astray;
Why do we cover our heads in The Sanctuary?
We cover our heads ( with a keepah, yarmulke, turban or doily) to show reverence to God. Men are allowed to wear a keepah, yarmulke or turban. Women are allowed to wear a turban or a bow. We do not allow Western styled hats to be work in the Sanctuary.
What should I wear?
Please keep in mind that we advocate modesty for both men and women. The men should have their heads covered and wear tunics/shirts that cover the groin area. Sleeveless shirts are not allowed on men or women. Women should also have their heads covered, wear long skirts and nothing tight or form-fitting. Women are not allowed to wear pants. Should you need a head covering, one will be provided for you.
